Marlowe's Doctor Faustus ends with the victory of Mephistofeles, and
Goethe's ends with the the victory of the Celestial Powers and Faustus
ascension to Heaven, ours is SUPER instead!!!
From Marlowe to Goethe and to our days, more than five centuries contributed
to make of Faustus one of the most significant myths of literature,
theater and music.
The famous pact through which Doctor Faustus sells his soul to the
devil has come to be considered as a synonym of supreme prank and
defiance to death and life, and to otherwordly life itself.
Our Faustus is SUPER, and just like any other super-hero from the
new millennium, he breaks the classical laws by abandoning a confrontation
with a super-villain, and becoming tormented, twisted in his mission
towards happiness.
Just like any super-hero, he has super-powers, mystical abilities
and extremely developed psychical and physical gifts; his super-identity
is hidden behind a mask.
Faustus just wants to be the greatest.
Not out of sheer greed, but rather out of a will to challenge. His
liberty to choose is at stake.
His challenge is carried out with the awareness of failure, failure
coming from surrendering to the seduction of cosier and more human
offers.
His rebellion aims at total control, he aches to be the only, undisputed
master of his own destiny, this is the drive that pushes Faustus'
defiance onward.
The play shows fragments of those “true stories”, Faustus'
myth.
Superfaust travels from one terrible and exciting adventure to another,
taking a walk both in the mediatic and real time.
The video plays with the idea of creating bridges between SuperFaust
theatrical apparitions and his movements in the real world.
SuperFaust-Faust can be everywhere.
Every time he appears SuperFaust changes the beginning and end of
the show, since every show is a unique moment in his life.
Just like Marlowe's and Goethe's Faustus, ours as well can change
his finale, as if Faustus were shrouded by a begnin curse, by the
possibility to be a “noble traitor”, of being able to transform
himself, his destiny and the finale of the show either!
Faustus delves into the mistery sorrounding human beings and their
existence.
Man and his purpose, here and elsewhere, wherever it may be.
Superfaust is ominpresent!!!
